After a very successful first day, the General Strike against Privatization gets on its second day without reported violent incidents. The information that flows from diverse points of the island confirm that the stoppage continues having an excellent reception.
Yesterday, the main commercial malls, restaurant chains, banks and all kinds of offices were closed. The commercial activity in cities and towns across the island was null, as confirmed in Ponce, Mayagüez, Aguadilla and Fajardo.
The closing of Luis Muñoz Marín international airport, after its immediate effect, had an extraordinary international repercussion.
Today, striker groups were mobilised at 4 a.m. to several points to continue paralysing the country's economy. Industrial parks and government agencies are being blocked at this moment by hundreds of demonstrators. In almost every case, things have been negotiated with police so everything goes without violence and the right to strike and protest is guaranteed.
Ports activities in San Juan have been entirely stopped for second day.
The vehicular traffic at 7 o'clock is scarce, in contrast with the usual jams in any work day.
From noon, and all the night and evening, the workers will concentrate in five places around the Island, San Juan, Ponce, Caguas, Arecibo and Mayagüez, to express the success of this Strike and the disposition to continue the struggle.
