Dear friends
We'd like to express our gratitude for your support and
solidarity for Suh's release.
The judge allowed bail on the payment of 10,000,000
won (about 6,700 US dollar), so Suh Joon-sik was released on
bail at 8 o'clock(p.m.) on 5 Feb 1998. It's a so rare thing to
release political prisoner on bail money in Korea. Your
every effort made this. Thank you very much again.
However the long and difficult trial waits for Suh Joon-sik.
He's charged for violating National Security Law, Security
Serveillance Act, etc. These laws are nefarious
legislations that encroach upon fundamental rights and
freedom of expression. Please, keep up your support for
Suh's struggle against these laws.
Suh also opposes oppressive rules and practices. On his
release day, the prison authorities didn't allow him to bring
his notebook out of the prison. In that notebook, he wrote his
diary, thoughts for the trial, letters to his daughters, etc.
Eventhough one writes a novel or a poem in prison, he or
she can't bring it out of prison in Korea. This practice
makes prisoner's writing impossible. Suh protested strongly
against this practice but his notebook was passed into the
prison authorities' hands. Suh will continuously assert his
right to get back his writings.
In a few days, Suh Joon-sik himself will express his
thanks for your support. Your solidarity for human rights has
made a change. Thank you!
